Creating a new Referral

After clicking on ‘+ New Referral,’ the following screen appears.

You can add the provider who you wish to send the referral to in the ‘To’ drop down menu.  This will display your address book ‘favourites’ and also allow you to search the full OCULO address book.  If the provider is an OCULO member, there will be a red circle to the left of their name, and they will receive the referral via their own OCULO account.  If they are not an OCULO member, there will not be a red circle visible, the sender will be alerted and will be prompted to print and fax or post the referral to the recipient.

You can include the patient’s GP by adding their details to the CC section.  Oculo will send the referral to the GP by eFax or HealthLink (secure message), if the GP is HealthLink enabled.

In the Urgency drop down menu, you have three options.  You must select one of the three available options.

If you select ‘Very Urgent’ the following warning appears:

The Message section is mandatory, so you must have text in that box.

The Reason for Referral is mandatory, and the user must select one of the options available.

Medical History does not have any mandatory fields.

In the Examination section, only Visual Acuity is mandatory.

The Investigation section allows you to upload attachments, in the form of images, PDFs, OCTs, visual fields and the like.

Once you click on the Send button, the following window will appear:

If you send a referral to a provider that is not an Oculo member, the following window appears, after you have ‘sent’ the referral.  It clearly stipulates that the provider is not an Oculo member, and the user is prompted to print, sign and send to the provider in another way.

After you have sent / created a referral, you can download a copy of the referral in JPG or PDF format, and print off a patient card to give to the patient, which will have the referral recipients practice details listed, or you can go back to the patient record.
